The last few weeks of August can be a febrile time for journalists. People are still on holiday, or preoccupied with preparing children for school, university, or new jobs. It used to known as the ‘silly season’.
Meanwhile, unknown sources at the Treasury have floated a few ideas to reform property taxes, or use new taxes on property rents or capital gains to extract unearned incomes, in place of wealth taxes proposed by other unknown sources earlier in the month. What better time to reconnect with the principles of Economics to deepen our understanding of contemporary issues of effective government, climate change, and inequality?
