20-24 August 2026, at Waterperry House
Following very enjoyable and successful residential workshops for the last three years, we will again be running our residential workshop alongside the Music group in the beautiful surroundings of Waterperry House. Our experience has been that music and dance make an ideal combination and produce some 'magical moments’.
This is a wonderful opportunity to express grace, beauty and spirituality in delightful company. Beginners are welcome and no experience of dance is necessary.
Abhinaya is a form of sacred dance from the Indian tradition which we have practised in the School for many years. It takes the form of descriptive hand gestures (mudras), mime and rhythm steps, all of which are used to convey the meaning and emotion of simple prayers, scriptural texts and stories. The guiding principle of the practice is that all movement arises from stillness.
“At the still point of the turning world... at the still point, there the dance is,... Except for the point, the still point, There would be no dance, and there is only the dance”
(Excerpt from T.S Elliot’s Burnt Norton)
Come and join the dance!
Students are asked to bring their own bed linen and towels unless this would present a difficulty, in which case they can be hired for a small charge (free for overseas students).
Arrival time for Abhinaya participants will be 8.00pm on Thursday 20 August and departure time will be 10.30am on Monday 24th August. Further details will be sent nearer the time.
